PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS BEFORE IT HAPPENS
The welfare of children is Always Home's most important consideration, and protecting housing is at the core of every child's well-being. To help families avoid the trauma of homelessness or time spent in shelter, Always Home focuses on a "Housing First" approach. Our goals are:
-
Help families find immediate solutions to their housing crisis;
-
Limit the number of families being evicted or spending time in the stressful state of emergency shelter or homelessness; and
-
Give families opportunities to build housing stability and resiliency.
Case management is the primary tool our staff uses to secure housing and prevent homelessness or shelter stays. We work alongside families to develop housing stabilization plans and provide budget counseling, tenant/landlord negotiations, tenancy skills, and connection to other basic needs resources as needed. Families who need assistance to preserve existing housing situations or create new ones may receive one-time help with security deposits, first month's rents, current rents and/or past-due rents. By acting proactively, at the start of housing insecurity when a family owes back rent or current rent or needs help with a car repair or childcare costs, we can get ahead of evictions and the deepening threat of homelessness.
Below are the various strategies we use to help families overcome their housing crisis and build better housing stability going forward.
